October 2nd 1970   Life… and death… hits home with the passing of LSE teacher John Elliot, aged 45. Senior Penny Andros relates Elliott’s thoughts on education—“When he got out of the Army he wanted to teach kids about their country and the workings of the government. He thought and wanted everyone to know that education was the most important thing and that you can go nowhere without it. “  She continued ,“Education had made the medical field better which had allowed him to live.”   Students were  more than just students to Mr. Elliott.   Senior   Candy LeRossignol said “I was a stranger and Mr. Elliott realized it and extended his hand and has been like a dad to me ever since.”
The Building Advisory Board tackles open campus, lunch noise issues and the new pass fail system. Student Council President, John Frey indicated that that group would follow up with a special Newsdesk to present both sides of the issue. A Proposed Affiliation Change Starts a Key Club Confrontation  but Doug Kern, KC member and District Governor was optimistic. “I think both groups are working real hard to get it cleared up,“ he said.   Also in front page news, the new Inter-Club Council  is   introduced . Student Council President John Frey’s idea has representatives from all the activity clubs meeting to talk about common problems and possible solutions. It’s working so far! According to Senior Steve Nordbrock, Camera Club president, Camera Club found help from Key Club   through Inter-Club Council. This will help  Camera Club, present a film festival that was too big to do on their own.  Get hip threads for the film fest, including A-1 Pegger Flares (low-rise, no iron jeans in solids, stripes and patterns) from Guarantee Clothing, 1131 “O” Street.   Pep Club President, Jane Etmund has homecoming chair, Mary Gabelhaus and her committees busy on Homecoming plans.   This year’s theme is “Thank the Lord for the Knight-Time” and colors are gold and black! Forget the gray!  Key Club President Pat Adams reports that Key Club’s anti-pollution leaflet is a big hit with requests for copies coming from groups around the country and Canada. Psychology Classes found Dr. Earl Lampshire’s visit hypnotizing! Seriously!   Senior DeAnn Nuernburger said “It was a tremendously relaxing experience. I was really impressed by the fact that he was able to hypnotize us. I’d never seen anything like it before.”
Newsdesk Has New(s) Ideas for Year including making the guys who wrote the letter to the Clarion eat their words, according to Senior Diann Duven. Seniors Jim Kissell, Bren Buckley and Colleen McGraw plan more live interviews like the one announcing   the fall play. Expect to hear from LSE coaches about upcoming game prospects.    Stay tuned for the essential Newsdesk fare, too,   and  know what’s going on  in club meetings, special events and outside news.

Congratulations to LSE netmen on winning the Fremont Invitational! Coach Eisele gave kudos to Senior Larry Beck for winning all his singles matches. Netmen, including co-captain, Senior Mark Churchill are taking a swing at breaking the state record of 45 consecutive wins. Good luck guys!   On the gridiron, the 2nd rated Knights meet 3rd rated Fremont tonight. Both teams boast 3-0-0 record going into the game. Senior Virg Falloon has this to say about the game, “There is no doubt in our minds whether we can beat them.  All we have to do is be ready.  Gymnastics action this week featured a near perfect performance on the side horse by Senior Jim Daniels at state championship level form, in   Coach Art Hillman’s opinion. Jim, along with Seniors Jim Unger, parallel bars, high bar and tumbling and Dave Bielby, free exercise brought home Tuesday’s win over Northeast, 139-129.   A new era dawns at LSE with the new Girls Swim Team. Senior swimmer Tom Knaub says “If the girls stick if out for five weeks, they will appreciate what boys go through.”   In display ads, “Everything’s Cool at Kuhl’s Restaurant “, “Tell them You’ve Arrived in Clothes from Hovland-Swanson” and “You Don’t Need Much Dough to Go to Geiers Bakery”
