October  16th 1970  "KNOCK'EM BACK A HUNDRED YEARS"  along with some chain links blazes in red over the front of the Clarion this week.  It's looking a lot like homecoming!  Homecoming court is announced but the suspense is going to keep you reading to find out  just who's in the running.  The promised lunch forum aired topics ranging from open campus, a student smoking (cigarettes) lounge, longer lunch,   affordable type A lunches vs higher cost off campus drive inn fare, and the long ice cream line.  Revving up for action is Accent Politics.  Senior   Ted Graff's "Free Grass" party has several students among the 600 registrants.  Ted promises his party platform will include a plan for a U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam.  Seniors Steve Guenzel and Mike Shuptar are co-chairs for the event.  In display ads,   Bernice's Ceramics has Enough Pots To Blow Your Mind and Mister Donut is open 24 hours a day with 144 varieties of pastry.   Key Club Taps (Steve) Andrews As International Trustee in other news.   Major buzz around the halls about last week's Star Spangled Banner.  Key Club President Pat Adams says Jimi Hendrix's version was chosen partly because it is different but the basic purpose was to stir up discussion and to get people to think and talk about it.  Key Club advisor, Randy Bruns said "It was only coincidence that we played it the same week he (Hendrix) died.  A Well-Balanced Cast is set to perform Diary of Anne Frank, according to director Louise McDonald.   At the top of the sports news, the Knight's football team remains undefeated after five encounters.  Last week 2nd rated Knights and 3rd rated Fremont battled to a 0-0 outcome.   Next up--- the Links.   If the Knights break the Links, Senior Mike Clements says  it will be the first time the Knights have defeated LHS and Northeast HS  in the same season.   GO KNIGHTS!  LSE netmen racked up a 9-0 win over Grand Island last week.   After two consecutive second place wins for at state, a first place would be groovy!  Good luck at state on Oct 22 & 23rd. Gymnasts stopped North Platte's 13 dual meet victory  streak last Friday night, taking the meet by .85 of a point.  Wade Kingery sports a little floral number in swim trunks in a picture about the upcoming swim season.  The LSE Newsdesk hits the airwaves this coming Sunday  with their presentation of "Woodstock:  Sign Post or Passing Trend" on KFOR's Voice of the Young Citizen.  Don't miss it.   Finally, get ready for senior stress… SAT's are November 7th and it's not like your whole life depends on them, right?  

 Oh, okay, as promised, the homecoming queen candidates are Candy Carroll, Dianne Duven, Joanne Gake, Karen Knudtson, Lu Kleppinger, Judy Moses, Patti O'Neal, Marcia Schroeder, Jaime Swanson and Barb Wise.  Nominated for homecoming king are Bill Bryant, John Carman, Jim Daniels, Doug Deeter, Jeff Dietemeyer, Virg Falloon, Dave Firestone, Kirk McCown, Don Osvog and Dwight Williams.
