December 8th, 1970   Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Class of 1971!  LSE student council celebrates with Christmas trees in the lobby, lounge and library while Senior Jim Nelson takes to the PA system to ask Knights to write letters to Hanoi in protest of POW Treatment which violates the Geneva Convention.  Postage is 25 cents for a letter and 15 cents for a postcard.  Nelson added “It’s about the most worthwhile thing you’ll ever do for 15 cents.”   The Constitutionality of “closed campus” coverage continues.  Comments from Mrs. Betsy Berger, Nebraska assistant attorney general, and LPS’s attorney, Willis Hecht center around discretion, control, permissiveness and reasonableness.   A UNL update on the first co-ed dorm says things are going fine.   A letter to the editor argues that displays in support of religious holidays in school are in violation of the law and should be abolished.  On Page 2, Sue Cunningham supports the Hanoi letter writing campaign, saying “Christmas is a time of giving, and what better gift can a person give to someone than freedom. Although one letter seems insignificant, when it teams up with others from all over the country and all over the world, something might be accomplished.”   She quotes Spiro Agnew from May 1, 1970:   “We shall never forget these men, and we shall never forget how they have been treated…”    Happy Birthday Nancy, Dec. 26, from Margo, Kathy and Mgt.  warbles a display ad  and Get Your Hubby a Hobby for Christmas at Ed Smith Hobby Shop. Don’t forget… Christmas is delicious at Clifton’s Corn Crib and say Bah-Humbug to the Christmas Blahs with some seasonal apparel from Winstons in the Meadowlane Shopping Center.    In club news, International Club sponsors a Greek boy and his family at the cost of $180 per year but want some answers on how much of that actually get to the child and family.  Enjoy LSE’s Christmas concert on KWGH-FM stereo at 102.7, Dec. 23rd at 5 p.m., courtesy of Woodmen Accident & Life Insurance.

Senior cager, Virg Falloon is all the buzz in sports news this week for his two free throws that tied the Fremont game and threw it into a double overtime, extravaganza ending with the season’s first victory 60-52.    The win was nice according to Coach Wally McNaught but both he and Falloon see fewer fouls and pulling together as a team to take advantage of breaks that come their way, as crucial to the season’s success.   Here’s wishing the cagers no “foul” weather and lots of “hoop de do” in tomorrow’s encounter with North Platte.   LSE swimmers meet Hastings today after taking GI 54-41 on Dec. 8th.  Seniors Brad Knudsen, Mark Morton, Wade Kingery and Gary Scott collecting a number of firsts and second places finishes were an impressive part of the win.   Good luck in the meet with Hastings, guys!   In display ads, the Synkra Knights hope you have a wonderful, exciting Christmas!  and Merry Christmas from the Office Ladies:  Mmes. Malek, Alexander, Pralle, Morris, and Pivonka.  Gary Scott makes One More Point for readers about what athletes do to psyche up for an event.   Senior mat man, Mike Bashore, smiles at the referee before each match.   “You’re bound to get at least to (sic) points right  off,” he laughed.  Shoe, socks and things in them go for quite a few Knights, including Virg Falloon, Alan Heilig, Mike Clements and Dan Hergert.  Don Osvog always puts his sweat bands on first.   Not surprisingly, swimmers have fewer options in regard to clothing and shoe related superstitions, according to Scott.   Wrapping up sports news are pictures of Senior wrestlers Rick Berkheimer and Bob Young putting their East High contenders down and out even though the Knights lost the match, 27-19.    In a win over the Fremont Tigers, Coach Gail Baum gave credit for a real good job to Senior and co-captain John Carman (and some sophomore who shall remain nameless and forgotten).  Good luck toKnight against Hastings--- bring it home for LSE!
