John Van Gundy
As the biggest football player on the team, he acquired the affectionate nickname "Haystack." He was a gentle giant off the football field.

So sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Steve and I became friends in HS and our friendship continued after graduation. We lived together with a couple other guys in a house for about 2 yrs. He was a great friend. A protector of everyone he knew. We had a ton of fun together. Prayers to the family. He will be missed.

Many great memoirs of Steve over the years.
Rest In Peace friend!
Steve Bridger
So sorry to learn of Steve's passing. He always had a pleasant greeting in the halls and was someone you could strike up a conversation with. I always felt he was a "gentle giant" and yet, was a hard working player on the State Champion football team. God Bless you, Steve and rest in peace.

Steve was a classmate, teammate and friend! We will all miss him!Jim Nelson
Steve was a great teammate and friend with never a negative word for anyone. I will share a story with you about Steve. Steve and several of us were taking turns boxing in Dan Grauer's basement. The two boxers tied opposite arms together to enhance the mortal combat aspect and prevent damaging Gerald and Shirley's basement. I believe it was Pat Brophy that drew Steve. All I will say is that Steve was magnificent and is wasn't pretty for Pat. We miss you Steve!

I remeber Steve as a nice, kind guy and always had a smile when he greeted you.
