Gary Scott

Our classmate, Gary Scott, passed away on June 15, 2024, in Ventura, California. As an adult Gary lived in Lincoln, Utah, California, then in Texas for many years before moving back to California around 2014.

Gary is survived by son, Paul, who lives in Utah, and three daughters, Sarah, Jasmine, and Caitlin, all of whom live in Southern California. Gary is survived by nine grandchildren, brother John, and sister Julie. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Greg, who died in 2021, and by his parents.

Family was very important to Gary and he loved spending time with his kids, their partners, and his grandchildren. His daughters are planning a celebration of life for later this summer, likely in the Ventura area. No date has yet been set.

Absolutely tremendous swimmer, but he didn't ever brag about his accomplishments. Just a quiet, confident guy. He'll be missed.

SaidGeorge is right, Gary was an excellent swimmer with a great sense of humor. He and I double dated several times two girls from East.   Gary liked my story of why we had to quit, even though the girls were good friends.  I told him I had gone over to the girl's house that I was dating to break up with her because she was usually in a foul mood and hardly ever spoke.   When I got there, we went to her back deck and she was exceptionally nice and smiled a lot.    I told Gary that I thought maybe she had changed and I would continue the relationship.   Then she reached from her lawn chair and put her hand on my knee and I thought we were going to get close. Instead, she told me she had something to tell me.  She said she wanted to break up.   I know it was impolite but I started to laugh thinking of the irony.    Gary liked the story and had been dating his girl for a long enough period that he was ok without double dating     I always enjoyed him but feel bad that, like so many others, I lost touch with him after high school    Prayers to his family

Gary had the most gorgeous back stroke. I believe he had a scholarship to Arizona University for swimming. We were hired to Woods pool during the summer. We played tennis barefoot in our swimsuits before lifeguarding. Gary was very funny guy. He told me he did his laundry at home but didn't know he had to put detergent in it. He had such beautiful blue eyes. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. Prayers for his family and friends. Candy Carroll Schrader

Gary was a great swimmer who took the sport seriously. So serious, he used to shave his head before big meets. He suffered the ribbing as I would call him 'baby chick'.
